Lux Reality RUTA DEL SOL

The Ruta Del Sol is the first foray into the wilds of Latin America for the Adventurists. Thousands and thousands of miles of proper hardcore Jungles and rainforest, the Andes, awful roads, complete absence of roads, tropical weather and lest we forget, the carnival. Along with raising sacks of cash for awesome charities it's a heady combination I think you'll agree.

As always the route is what we call loosely defined, but this time we start in Ecuador and end up in Rio de Janeiro, errrr later. Head north and get kidnapped in Columbia, tackle the virtually impossible task of driving straight through Brazil or get lost and die of altitude sickness in the Andes by heading south, the choices are many. What better way to traverse the continent but in the iconic vehicle of the region, a knackered VW Beetle. So there it is, the South American gauntlet on the floor waiting for us.

Finally we have a few spare minutes to update the blog.

Well our car broke down after 2 km, and since it was the 2nd we bought we thought it could be a sign.

We satyed one more night in Quito, the eternal spiral, and the day after we caught a bus to Cuenca. Got to Cuenca very early in the morning, went to a hostel, walked around, had a very intense experience of Carnaval in a little town, and went back for dinner.

We left the next morning heading for the beach, we got conned in the border, and set our destination Mancora. 3 Nice days at the beach. We stayed in a very nice cabin type hostel, unfortunatly we got a sunburn and got completely eaten by mosquitos ( zancudos).

We went to Lima spent 2 lovely days, we loved the city and departed to Cuzco.

Got here at 10 by the end of the day I could really feel the soroche, no matter how many coca mates I drank, bought the tickets to Aguas calientes. We went to bed at 8 , since at 5 in the morning we had to get going. If any of the teams are planning to see machu picchu, and go there by train, note that it's very hard to get the tickets for the same day if you don't buy them in advance. By the way Aguas Calientes is very expensive.

We are back in Cuzco after a very nice excursion through all the sacred valley, with a taxi driver it was 80 soles from Ollantaytambo to Cuzco about 4 hours. I think it was worth it.

We leave this afternoon to Lima, and tonight to Sao Paolo, I...[Read More]
